Volunteers: Volunteers are able to lend their time whenever and wherever they are needed. They are involved in the variety of activities such as leading story time, playing board games with the kids, leading arts and crafts, or participating in support group sessions: something as simple as sitting down with the families to have meaningful conversations with them. Volunteers are always welcome to help in our facilities. The kids always enjoy company that they know they can make fun, happy memories with. Volunteers do not need a background in working with kids. All that is needed is someone who loves working with children, is compassionate, and willing to help a child in need smile. For the safety of Helping Hands families, volunteers must complete a volunteer interview before being permitted to work.
Other ways to help:
Monetary donations, which help pay for medical bills
Refer friends and family that are eager to engage in volunteer work
During the holidays, participate in our Helping Hands gift drive to be donated to the children
Thanksgiving Feast-Every year just in time for the holidays, Helping Hands hosts a large Thanksgiving dinner for all our families recieving services from Lurie Children's and Shriners Hosptial. This is a great opportunity for volunteers to give their time to celebrate the lives of hospitalized children, and to show your support for their bravery.
